Charlie Waddell

Let me tell you the story of Charlie Waddell!

Charlie is another amazing Veteran that Veterans Support Network Inc., was able to help this year with $1000 towards his new driveway.

Charlie joined the United States Army in May 1967. He was from Indianapolis, Indiana, and began his military service at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He later returned to Indianapolis to attend finance school at Fort Harrison before being assigned to Fort Bragg.

From there, Charlie was sent to Wildflecken, Germany, where he served in the mountains under extremely harsh conditions. His duties involved digging foxholes in the snow, climbing mountains daily, and helping set up NATO missile sites. The work was highly hazardous, and the nearest hospital was about 60 miles away. The environment was especially challenging, with cold weather and snow lasting nearly nine months of the year.

Charlie later spent time in Heidelberg, Germany, where he worked in computer operations. While stationed there, he also joined the drill team and marched in parades, representing his unit with pride.

On April 1, 1968, Charlie received orders to Vietnam. At first, he believed it was an April Fool’s Day prank, but the orders were real. He served in Vietnam for 17½ months. After returning home, Charlie was discharged from the military in October 1970.

One of Charlie’s proudest accomplishments from his military career was achieving the rank of Specialist Five (E-6). He earned advanced promotion at every rank, a testament to his dedication, performance, and leadership throughout his service..

I also want to give a huge shout out and thank you to platinum plus concrete! They gave a huge discount to our Veteran Charlie. And help raise around $2800 in a GoFundMe to help with Charles cost. Please reach out to them for any concrete needs in central Indiana.

They will give you a great deal at a fair price and they do quality work!
